Becoming Mahob at Moos

from mahob by amok to mahob at moos

Meet Marty of Moos

Marty, nickname Moos, was the founder and original owner of Moos, a café and restaurant in Meeniyan. Marty served the Meeniyan community for over 15 years, and during this time Marty established a strong following and connection to the community due to his commitment to local farmers and businesses. We will continue Marty’s passion for Moos in supporting our local famers and communities in the area.

Marty’s Connection to Cambodia

Woody and Marty met earlier this year at the “Have a Heart for Cambodia” fundraiser, a cause Mahob has supported for the past 9 years. Having chatted at the fundraiser, Woody felt a connection to Marty, he was inspired by Marty’s sense to help others, his generosity and in particular his affiliation to Woody’s homeland of Cambodia.

Mahob

Mahob is a Cambodian word, which translates as “food” in English. Food brings the connection of kinship, love, joy and laughter. It nourishes us and heightens our senses. Mahob is about sharing a meal together.

Mahob by Amok is the passion and drive of Chef Woody Chet, who was born and raised in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and his love for cooking and showcasing his take on Cambodian Cuisine using modern cooking techniques. He opened his first restaurant Amok in April 2015 in Windsor and evolved to become Mahob by Amok in 2022, a pop up restaurant in Hawthorn East for 14 months to experiment further with modern Cambodian cuisine.

Becoming Mahob at Moos, in Meeniyan

In recognising Marty’s achievements and for all he has done for Meeniyan and the surrounding communities we respectfully send a shout out to him in continuing his legacy and his name. By taking the best of Mahob and the best of Moos, we will become Mahob at Moos.

Hope for Mahob at Moos

Meeniyan is sometimes referred to as ‘the turning point’ and could not hold truer for both Marty and Woody’s journeys. For Marty, a bittersweet goodbye to his incredible hospitality over the past 15 years. For Woody, a new and exciting venture for him to continue his passion and love for sharing his meals.

Mahob at Moos we will continue as a café, 4 days per week (Friday to Monday), with Woody bringing is passion to dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

We will be café by day and restaurant by night.

Moos by day and Mahob by night. A perfect pairing.

We invite you to visit us in this small but beautiful regional town and experience Woody’s culinary dishes at Mahob at Moos.

Mahob at Moos will be located at 89 Whitelaw Street, Meeniyan and will launch in August 2024 with the date to be confirmed shortly.
